SOLOIST PRESENTATION 1/4 @hendrickjevankerckhove

SOLOIST PRESENTATION 1/4 @hendrickjevankerckhove will be the soprano soloist during our Messiah concert on 14 December. After her studies at the Antwerp Conservatoire, Hendrickje van Kerckhove completed her training at the Flanders Opera Studio and the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo. She soon gave her debut at the Festival de Aix-en-Provence and at Vlaamse Opera. After creating Natalia-Medusa in the world premiere of de Felice’s Medusa at the Bavarian State Opera, she was invited to participate in Un ballo in Maschera (Oscar) and Don Carlo (Voce dal Cielo) under Zubin Mehta. Other important house debuts followed at Staatsoper unter den Linden Berlin, Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam and Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg. In recent years, Hendrickje van Kerckhove has been regularly invited by La Monnaie, where she appeared in Julie, Frankenstein, Dialogues des Carmélites, Parsifal, Médée and Sweeney Todd, amongst others. Also noteworthy are her appearances at the Vlaamse Opera in L’Amour des trois oranges, Così fan tutte, Der Ring des Nibelungen, La Sonnambula and Jenůfa. With a soft spot for the concert repertoire, she has made a name for herself as a refined lied and oratorio interpreter. Equally at home in works by J.S. Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Brahms or in contemporary music, she has appeared at Musikverein Wien, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Bozar, deSingel (Antwerpen), the Megaron (Athens) and Philharmonie Luxembourg. Hendrickje has also made a name for herself as a singing teacher at the Royal Conservatoire of Ghent.

Join us for our upcoming concert with @davidnavarroturres and @bphorchestra on Saturday 2 December in BOZAR! Featuring: Brahms: Schicksalslied & Requiem
Neaimi: Sounds of Baghdad (World Premiere) The Brussels Choral Society and the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a poignant and powerful concert of 3 pieces that celebrate the capacity for resilience and hope in the human spirit.
We will hear two of Brahms’ greatest choral works. The first, Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny), which is a setting of Hölderlin's poem, wherein the tragedy of human destiny gives way to a shining conciliation, and secondly, his famous Ein deutsches Requiem (composed around the same time as Schicksalslied), where Brahms focuses on the consolation to be conferred upon the living in a text that is more deeply connected to the spiritual than to the religious.
This concert will also mark the world premiere of Sounds of Baghdad, an evocation of the numerous faces of Baghdad, the origin of the composition of Belgian-Iraqi Qoutayba Neaimi.
